So far, I’m fairly disappointed in the commercials for the Super Bowl this year. It seems like Bud Light is the only actual sponsor besides Fox plugging their own stuff–which seems like a dumb idea because most people know Fox’s lineup. I’m expecting some better commercials as the game progresses, or it’s just gonna be a huge disappointment. Beer is cool, but I’m kind of expecting something more–maybe some women in corsets, other beer companies, some cool car commercials… I dunno, something great. Now there’s a plug for the commercials on Myspace. Who cares if all of the commercials suck?
No matter who wins the NFC Championship game, I’m going to be happy. I’m a fan of the Giants, so if they win, I’ll he happy. I don’t think they’ll win against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, so the victory would be bittersweet. On the other hand, Green Bay might be able to pull out the win against New England if they make it to the Super Bowl. But, should I root against my favorite team because they have a better chance in a future game?
Besides, everybody loves Brett Favre. Not liking Favre is like not liking America. And, if you don’t like America, you shouldn’t even be watching football, you terrorist!
We’ll see, I guess. It’s been/going to be a good game anyway and I’ve already got a team to root for in the Super Bowl either way. It’s going to be rough waiting until February to watch it, but I’m pretty juiced and am only going to be sad when the football season is over.
baby cribs
Well, it’s bittersweet. I’m glad the Giants are in the NFC Championship, but I really would prefer to see the Browns advancing through the playoffs. But, in true Cleveland fashion, they made it hard on themselves, backed themselves into a corner and lost their chance at the playoffs. But, I’ve followed the G-Men for a couple years now and am glad to see them playing up to their potential. There’s some room for improvement still, but I think next week’s game against the Packers should be fun to watch. I’m hoping that the Chargers can find a way to put some things together and put down the Patriots, but I don’t hold out a lot of hope. I’m pretty sure, barring a major injury to a few key players (read: Tom Brady, Randy Moss) and a few recoveries for the Chargers (read: Phillip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson), the game will belong to New England.
Small business valuation
Every weekend for the past 7 weeks, I can be found (at some point) plopped in front of my television watching either college or professional football. It’s not that there isn’t anything else I could be doing, it’s just that I enjoy watching it. I like the tension that builds when two fairly evenly-matched teams battle it out on the gridiron knowing that each week their season’s fate could be decided.
With that in mind, it’s fairly easy to understand why I have a more difficult time getting pumped up about baseball and basketball. With 162 and 82 games in their season, respectively, it is tough to see the importance that an individual game holds. True fans understand that home field advantage can be decided by one game, and a series can be decided by one game, but I have a problem allowing that to affect my passion about these sports.
I used to love playing baseball on summer evenings as a kid, but I still can’t get into watching it on TV. I’d rather watch golf, these days it’s like a highlight reel of nice shots. But, to those fans who stick it out every year and follow their team religiously, props to you. Fire up your home theater popcorn machines and settle in for the long haul. As for me, you’ll find me on Saturdays and Sundays with a beer in one hand and the remote in the other, flipping back and forth between the obnoxious number of games they cram into those 2 days.
It’s like they gave up and didn’t even want to win this game…
So, I’m watching the Indians/Red Sox game and I’m on the edge of my seat. It’s so close at 2-3 with the Red Sox in the lead. The Indians are about to start the top of the 7th inning, so I hope they can make something happen and at least tie up the game this inning to help out with some breathing room. So, I’ll talk about this later, for now I’m gonna go enjoy the game!
Oh, if you’re in the market for engagement announcements.
I’ve gone golfing more times this year than I have in the past two years combined. As we were walking around aimlessly a couple weeks ago, searching for a lost ball, I just thought again about what a weird/silly idea it is. A group of guys spend up to several hundred (maybe more!) dollars on a set of metal sticks, appropriately named clubs. Then they walk/drive around, each trying to move a small ball into a 3″ hole… not just once, but 18 times. I’m not sure if this is THAT much weirder than some other sports like baseball (1 ball, 1 stick, 4 bases, 9 guys) or football (1 ball, 2 endzones, 22 guys), but it’s still a goofy little concept. I don’t agree that it’s a good walk spoiled, but it sure makes me feel dumb to think about it like this. People play for different reasons, some to drive the ball, some to get away from their everyday life, and some because they have nothing better for a hobby. It would be nice to travel the US playing in different states, maybe get an Orlando rental home and play on some Florida courses.
I went golfing with Randy and his in-laws again this morning. Although it makes for an early Sunday morning, it’s definitely worth it. I recently purchased a used driver and set of irons that I found through eBay and took them out this morning. I sucked pretty bad with the driver throughout the day, so I’m going to try to get to a driving range this week sometime to practice with it and work on my swing a little bit. Hopefully I’ll be able to work out the kinks before Saturday (golfing at Brookside with Randy, Ryan, Justin and Dad). My irons play was pretty good, but my putting wasn’t any better than my long ball. It makes me wonder if it’s really worth going out and putting myself through it, but it totally is. I’ll probably still be trying not to suck at golf if/when I go bald and need to visit Dr. Larry Shapiro.
The weather we’ve been having as of late is f***ing fantastic! It’s times like these I understand why I’m not totally upset with Ohio and need to move out. *note* remind me of this in January. This awesome weather also means that it’s time to start getting outside and working out those weary winter bodies. I’ve already gotten a few matches of cornhole in this summer and cannot wait for the first couple games of sand volleyball and the first few rounds of golf, which I totally missed out on last Summer. Randy and I were talking about going out for Father’s Day with the old man and the eldest brother, but I need to restock my golf bag–pick up some Titleist golf balls, beers, tees, and I really should get some new clubs…
